traditional chess from Java

I often play this traditional chess when I was a kid. I live in a small village in central Java, Indonesia. I do not know if there is a similar game like this now. I also do not find this traditional game in other provinces in Indonesia. If anyone has the same game like this, please leave me a comment here! This game can be played anywhere because you can use stones and draw the chess board on the ground or on the floor. I do not see children playing this game anymore in my village. That is a pity. I think it can be extinct. Let’s play the game, read and learn the instruction below!

Traditional Javanese Chest ( Dam-daman/ Macanan)
Players : Two children / Adults
Time : Unlimited
Equipment:  1 Big Stone, 15 Small Stones,  a Chest board( Drawing board on the floor with a chalk)

How to play

This is the chest board. This is the starting position. There are fifteen small stones and one the big one. If you are creative enough you can create the hunters and the giant from more attractive materials. See the picture 1!
Rules of the game
A hunter and the Giant can only move one pace. Both can move forward, backward or diagonal following the line. The Giant can only eat if it can jump over a hunter one pace. When the hunter is eaten, it should be removed. The Giant will die if it cannot move and cannot eat any hunters.

The Giant can eat by jumping over the hunter: see the picture 2! It can eat following horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. It jumps over a hunter, then the hunter is removed. Look at the green line!

The Giant will die if either it cannot move nor eat any hunters. The hunters will win the game if the Giant dies. When the Giant is able to eat up all the hunters or the number of the hunters is impossible to kill the Giant, the Giant wins the game. See picture 3!
