How to teach children English as foreign language

English is the most used language in the world. It is used for business, law, politic, and other fields. It is the first language studied at schools after the native language of each country. Now, it is not the property of native-English-speaking countries but it is the possession of the world. The question is how to teach children English as a foreign language.

Learning English as a foreign language is possible for children everywhere. Children from Korea, China, Saudi Arabia and other countries can learn English. They are the best learners. They learn faster than adults do. Most parents have realized how important English for their children is. They ask their kids to enroll English courses. They have high expectation. They hope that their children will be good English users even though English is a foreign language.

Children who learn English as a foreign language must practice very often. Schools and courses that use English as daily conversation will gain better result. Parents and teachers can participate to force their children in English language exposure at any occasions. That they speak English to their kids in a car, at home, or in a supermarket will help practicing in real life communication.

Teachers must provide children with interesting, easy and well-organized English learning materials. The materials include books, CDs, or videos. Teachers would rather choose to buy them instead of creating on their own. They do not spend too much time. They just think about how to make lesson plan using those facilities.

Parents also have significant tasks to help their children learn English as a foreign language. They involve supporting their children by giving some books, films, and toys that motivate and improve children’s passion to learn English. Parent’s view about learning English also influences children’s motivation. Children will follow what their parents’ opinion. They will pay no attention to English lesson when their parents do not like learning English and assume that English is not necessary. Parents who do not understand English at all are likely to call for an English private tutor home. This solution will help children learn and use English at home with the private tutor.

Many English learning softwares are offered now. Children are permitted to use them. These softwares will help English learners practice English easily. Children just sit in front of their computer and click the mouse. Some softwares are designed as game like. Children might enjoy using them. Children under 3 years old had better learn with their parents or teachers. They need help to operate computers. However, some softwares are children friendly so that very young boys or girls are able to use them.

Teachers are not allowed to deliver English grammar lesson to early learners. Children have to be English users first to obtain grammar lessons. They are the best imitators therefore, they will imitate proper grammar in speaking and writing even though they do not get English grammar lesson exclusively. They use correct forms of language from their teachers in both writing tasks and speaking activities.
